A common saying from many singles is: “All my friends are getting married or in relationships” thus many Sikhs allow their social circle and family life to become a unnecessary pressure in their search for their ideal partner. It can become difficult finding your perfect soul mate and having to rely on the tradition of Sikh match making – “arranged marriages”.
As a single Sikh person you must get out there , socialise, network, make new connections and friends and hang out with other like minded people.
After a while your married friends will longer have the time to socialise as much as they used to as their social activities will be couple and family oriented and therefore they may gravitate towards other married couples. And with these married couples one day you could here those dreaded words “I just don’t understand why you’re STILL single!”, “You’re such a good catch , why are you not married?”
Meeting new people is key, it’s advisable to seek out new social circles and places where other singles may be.
Your friends can spur you on or pull you down hence make you feel the pressure for the need to get married asap. If this happens build a peer group that serves you. Hang around with people who have the same goals as you, who won’t let you off the hook, who can check up on your progress and hold you accountable and who’ll keep you posted of any single events taking place.
If you are determined to go out there and find the love of your life, then look for the kind of friends (new and old) who will drive and encourage you through your journey. Keep people who are encouraging and have your best intentions at heart.
And there is no harm in asking people you know to keep an eye out for any potentials for you… so don’t be shy to ask.
